How do you think people from the 1700s would respond to a story regarding a zombie apocalypse?
I love classic literature, especially 18th century
Thomas grey, Goethe, Schiller, Goldsmith, Voltaire, etc...
I saw the trailer for world war Z just now and it looks incredibly stupid, I dont know why we have this zombie apocalypse trend now (I am legend is another example), peoples attention spans just become smaller and smaller
anyways after seeing the trailer that made me think "how would people from the 18th century respond to this?"
Not world war Z specifically but just a story about an outbreak of a virus or something and it turns people into zombies and one guy (or a group of people) is going around killing all of them?
I know it sounds huge, I requires sometime to think but please help I want to get some other opinions
Do you think there reaction would be positive or negative on regards to how good the literature is?
Answer: Ha! I like this question but yeah they'll probably be like ooo he/she a witch for writing that!! That's the Devil! That's evil!!! Witch!! Burn the witch! Then they'll probably acuse the author of witchcraft and burn the poor guy. Nd noooooo I disagree with you World War Z looks pretty cool and i in mu opinion can't wait to see it! But we all have our own in taste in music, movies etc. Stuff like that.

How does a submarine produce electricity by running its "power lines into the water"?
I saw this in the book World War Z, on page 247, where "Commander Songs father[...]came up with the idea of running floating power lines into the lagoon and leasing the electricity from our reactor." Im sure this isnt esoteric and confined to this book. Id just like to know how this cool process works. Thanks!
Answer: Read the sentence a bit more closely. "...leasing the electricity from our reactor." He's talking about selling the electricity generated by the sub's on-board nuclear reactor.

The Comedian
Inherent Vice
Argo
World War Z
BQ: How many films do you think Quentin Tarantino will have directed by the time his career is done? Id say, no more than 13. He has 7 now and 2 upcoming, so after that Id say 4 more at the very most.
Answer: I'm genuinely looking forward to World War Z, though I can't say the same for the rest. WWZ has a decent director, screenwriter and cast, coupled with a seemingly entertaining plot. I doubt I'll care much for Argo, as I quite dislike Ben Affleck. I've not read Inherent Vice, but P.T. Anderson and RDJ rarely disappoint. I don't have a lot of hope for The Comedian, as De Niro's performances have been somewhat lacking lately. I doubt any of them will be amongst my top fifty, but World War Z may break my top one hundred favourites.
BQ: I'm still holding out for a Vega brothers film and the remake of Faster, Pussycat Kill! Kill! I could see him directing at a very old age, so I'd expect more than four. I doubt he'll exceed twenty films, though.

What is an example of government ineptitude?
I am doing a book report on World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War. The book has a rather silly premise but it is mainly a criticism of government ineptitude, corruption in corporations, and peoples short-sightedness.
So in the book, the U.S government ignored the warning signs of the zombie pandemic even though they had tons of reports of outbreaks in countries like China (whose government tried to cover it up) and South Africa. Because the U.S ignored the signs and kept the truth from the public the country came very close to collapse.
So I am trying to think of an example of government ineptitude in real life. Would Hurricane Katrina be a good example?
Answer: Katrina's good.
Rwanda's even better - everybody (UN, France, US, etc.) knew the genocide was coming but no one did anything meaningful to prevent it.
9/11 has it's points, too.
Or you could do Benghazi & the lack of security at embassies & consulates all over the Middle East.
That's a rich vein you've got there, bud! :-)

In all honesty could you kill a family member who became a zombie?
So this came up on IMDB while discussing World War Z. Some one said that there are many many people who know that to kill a zombie you have to shoot them in the head. Alot of people said that they could do it, but how many people if it came down to it could actually shoot someone. Then they also said what if it was a family member and you didnt even have a gun. What if you had to bash their heads in. Could you do that?
Answer: If it meant my life, I think I could. No one in true honesty can give a difinitive answer because it's speculation. Who knows? The adrenaline takes over in a situation like that and you could do something complately different. World War Z is an amazing book. What if Albert Wesker hadn't been killed in Resident Evil 5? We might be dealing with a sh!tlo@d of Uroboros right now! Lol...but someone could engineer a virus and release it into the atmosphere any day...are you ready?

Answer: It has been a while since I have read the book, but if I recall Max Brooks makes mention of one weapon in particular. During one interview he talks about the Lobotomizer which was developed by the U.S. Marine Corps. If I remember correctly it was supposed to be a combination of a shovel and an ax.

Turn on the TV today, and you could be forgiven for thinking its 1999. What is a really good post apocalyptic book?
I have read The Walking Dead, World War Z, The Rising, The Road, Y : The Last Man, The Stand, and I Am Legend. I am looking for a good read that focuses more on the survival aspect instead of the zombies or whatever. The Road is a good example. Please list book title and author. Thanks
I have read The Hunger Games, just forgot to list it.
Answer: -The Maze Runner (trilogy) by James Dashner, although the 'zombies' aspect appear in the second book, but there's a lot of survival and mystery solving going on in the first one
-Blood Red Road by Moira Young
-Divergent by Veronica Roth (i just started but seems to fit your description and is pretty good)
Brave new world by Aldous Huxley is really good.. it's just set in the future and no zombies...
