Wimbledon Womens Final
Serena Williams swept Vera Zvonareva in straight sets Saturday to win her fourth Wimbledon title and 13th Grand Slam championship.
Why is Wimbledon regarded as the best tennis tournament in the world?
Next month Im going to Wimbledon which is supposed to be the best tennis tournament in the world. What makes it the best?
Answer: It's the oldest Grand Slam and the most prestigious one. It's played in the land tennis was born in and it is very traditional. Every player's dream is to win this historic tournament at least once to remain immortal. A Wimbledon trophy is the most sacred thing in tennis, without a doubt.
The charm and appeal that attracts people to this event is due to the fact that it is one of the only Grand Slams that remains without subsidy. It is not as commercialized as the Australian Open, U.S. Open, or French Open and retains its traditional, British charm. It is also one of the most organized and best presented of the tennis tournaments. It has that great appeal of royalty and tradition. No sponsors of the side of the courts, beautiful green grass courts, strawberries and cream, it just feels unlike any other event.
Wimbledon is a spectacular event attended by fans from all over the globe. This tournament put on by Britain's, and possibly the world's, premiere tennis club is unrivaled by any other tennis tournament. It has the highest ticket sales of the Tennis Grand Slams and is highly regarded by any member of the tennis community.

Why does Andy Roddick have a higher seed for Wimbledon than Gael Monfils and Mardy Fish?
Ok so I just looked at the seedings for Wimbledon and it says that Andy Roddick is seeded 8th higher than World No. 8 Gael Monfils and No. 9 Mardy Fish even though he is the World No. 10. Why is this?
Answer: Wimbledon reserve the right, unlike the other Grand Slams, to change the seedings around within the top 32 in the rankings. Roddick has been extremely successful at Wimbledon in the past and has been a finalist on three occasions, whereas Mardy Fish and Gael Monfils have each only been as far as the third round, so Wimbledon feel that he should be higher seeded than these other players.
This is not the first time that this has happened. Last year, Rafael Nadal was ranked World No.1, yet Roger Federer was given the number one seed because he was a previous six time champion. Also this year Serena Williams is ranked 25, but because of her four previous titles in Wimbledon she will be seeded 8th to make her passage to the quarter-finals easier. Venus Williams will also be seeded 23rd despite being ranked 33rd.
Hope my answer helped and enjoy Wimbledon next week!

What type of people gravitate toward living in Wimbledon and how would they differ from those in Richmond?
Who would live in Wimbledon, and what type of person would live in Richmond-upon-Thames. For example, on a demographic level, which socio-economic classes, occupation groups, income levels, educational attainment, etc., would prefer living in each of these areas.
Answer: Wimbledon Hill and Richmond are very similar really. However, because Wimbledon Hill is further away from the tube station there may be affluent car commuters up there.
Richmond attracts a younger group because of the riverside and park and it has lots of good restaurants: http://www.richmondparklondon.co.uk/eatdrink/restaurants/

How will you feel when Andy Murray raises that Wimbledon trophy?
74 years since a British man won Wimbledon and on Sunday the wait will be over. How will you feel? Personally I will go out and party.
Answer: Unfortunately I dont think he is going to win wimbledon, there is simply way too much pressure on him and Andy murray will not be able to deal with it, even though i am a hard core federer fan, I still wish that Murray would win because he is an amazing player and deserves to win. :) however if he is to ever win a major this is his best chance with nadal and djokovic out and federer facing the pressure of how winning Wimbledon would make him number one again and would have him tying Sampras record of seven Wimbledon titles. Murray has a great chance....but I think that hopes and pressures of a country is simply too much for him to beat. Sorry :(

How do the ATP tennis rankings work and what are the points values for Wimbledon?
How are points allocated or deducted, I saw on another website, that was showing what various Wimbledon outcomes would do to the Rankings, that Federer would lose points is he were the beaten semi-finalists. Is this correct and generally how does it work?
Answer: Succinctly put, the tennis ranking system is based on the best 18 performances of a tennis player in the past 52 weeks. Points are earned or lost based on the performance in a tournament compared to that of the previous year. So if one goes farther in a tournament than the year before, he or she gains points. Accordingly, if the player loses in an earlier round, he or she loses points.
Defending champions cannot gain points in any circumstance. For any result less than a repeat title, he or she loses points. For example, Venus Williams cannot gain points at this year's Wimbledon no matter what, even if she wins the title again (if she does, she neither gains nor loses points). This is somewhat cruel, but it's just the way the ranking system works.
The ranking system is blind to what opponents you play. So it does not matter whether you beat Roger Federer or some unheralded wild card player in the final of Wimbledon; the points gained for winning the title is the same. There is much more beyond all that I wrote above, and it can get rather complicated. There are tournament categories: the Grand Slams reward the most points, followed by the Masters 1000 tournaments, 500 tournaments, and 250 tournaments (the numbers represent the points awarded for winning the tournament). For the women there are Premier Mandatory tournaments, Premier tournaments, International Tournaments, and of course, Grand Slams.
Follow the helpful link I give you below for a basic FAQ about the men's ranking system that will probably answer any of your additional questions I have not answered.
Here is the point allocation for Wimbledon (as well as all the other slams):
R128 - 10
R64 - 45
R32 - 90
R16 - 180
QF - 360
SF - 720
F - 1,200
W - 2000

Should Wimbledon tennis be moved out to say Birmingham or Manchester?
Should Wimbledon tennis be moved out to say Birmingham or Manchester? Over the years so much of the British taxpayers money has been ploughed into the Wimbledon tournament (and into the London area itself) and this is unfair to Brits as a whole.
So should we start now by dispersing Londonish things and re-distributing things more evenly around the country?
Answer: But then they would have to change the name of the Tournement, wouldnt they? Wimbledon is held in the area of London which is called, Wimbledon. It would have to be re-named Moss Side or Dudley for instance, and it doesnt quite have the same ring, does it?
And besides which, who the hell would want to go to Manchester or Birmingham through choice? Both are absolute shite holes, and you stand a good chance of getting mugged or stabbed there.

Do you think Wimbledon needs to change its tradition by allowing players to wear colourful outfits?
I dont. I believe those traditions that make Wimbledon is different from other Grand Slam, and considered to be the most prestigious tennis tournament in this planet.
Answer: No. Tradition is what makes Wimbledon special and unique amongst the four majors. It's also what gives Wimbledon and tennis on a whole, that added royal, regal aspect to the sport. Almost as if you are not really watching just another sporting event, but witnessing something that grand and beyond your imagination. The white outfits are apart of this grandeur atmosphere that is Wimbledon.
All year long you see the players at the various tournaments and you're basically used to each of them and their personalities, and then Wimbledon rolls around and suddenly it's like everything in the sport changes. The sport takes on a new life, something that is remarkably special and majestic in feeling. As a player and a spectator you feel that you are apart of something that is more important than anything you can comprehend. It's gives tennis and winning the Wimbledon crown that added significance and meaning.
The all-white outfits, the curtsy to the royal box (which I wish they will bring back), all these things makes Wimbledon into the special tournament that it is. Take it away and you're left with just another tournament on the tennis calender year.

Does everyone thing Wimbledon is the best tennis tournament?
Ive always thought the Wimbledon is the top tennis tournament and that its the one that all the players really want to win. Is this just because Im English or is it true?
Answer: As a fan, yes it's my favorite tournament as well. Just something about the charm, the tradition, the grass courts, it's all so English. But I think the players differ on which slam title they want to win most, usually going by their favorite surface first, then by location. In other words most clay court specialists probably dream of winning the French Open first, and I'm sure most American players probably dream of winning the U.S. Open first, but of course everyone would love to win any of the slams. But Wimbledon is special because there are so few grass court tournaments these days, so there's almost no time to prepare for it. Nadal has said that Wimbledon is the title he wants more than any other now, which is easy to say after he's won 4 French Opens.

Which are the best montessori and private schools in Wimbledon, Richmond and Putney?
I have recently moved to London from Singapore and am looking to admit my 4 year old daughter into Reception. We are looking to move into Wimbledon, Richmond or Putney, depending on the right school. Would you advise of the good state schools in these areas? We are also open to montessori and private schools and would request for say, top 5 state, private and montessori schools in each borough, if possible.
Answer: The results below are just in Wimbledon, for Montessori.
If you go to www.Montessori.org.uk you will be able to search each area in London for Montessori Schools. You will also see which ones are quality accredited by the MEAB (Montessori Evaluation & Accreditation Board). More importantly perhaps, reports and contact details are also on there.
Good luck in your search. I wish you well,

How long will it take to get a tube from Wimbledon to Victoria (District line) on Easter Sunday afternoon?
I have to get from Wimbledon to Victoria within 50 minutes. Is this possible on the tube? If not, on the train?
Answer: A direct journey from Wimbledon to Victoria on the District Line will take 28 minutes, and the good news is that there are no planned engineering works today on that stretch of line.
Train will take about 25 minutes, but will involve a change of train at Clapham Junction or Vauxhall.
