Why do people keep writing off Roger Federer?
Im a big Federer fan, I just want to know every year since the 2008, people have been singing his swan song. I acknowledge hes getting old, but would he really play if he didnt believe he could win more majors? I dont understand why people always remember the bad events of this year but quickly forget the fact that he won Wimbledon last year fighting off both Novak and Murray both playing really well.
This Australian Open he had a good showing and this suggests to me that he does have more majors left in him. What do you think?
Q1: Why people keep writing off Federer?
Q2: Is it wise?
BQ: Do you think he can win any more Major titles?
@menstogid
Your quick to say "on their day" but you didnt mention that on federers day he can beat Djok/Murray (E.g. Wimbledon..) Are you actually saying Tomas Berdych is a lesser player? Hes ranked what 6 in the world? And why are you ignoring the fact his performance in Australia was 5 levels above everything else this year? Murray lost pretty convincingly to stanislas wawrinka if you didnt see that? Djokovic lost to Tommy Haas did he not? His return and backhand was just fine this australia..
I think youre being too pessimistic saying hed be lucky to reach a QF of a slam..
@10ISGAWD
Well its safe to say you dont like Federer....
He can take Djokovic much better than any other player on tour..
Andy Murray wins one slam and hes all of a sudden mr fantastic?
I admit Nadals one player Federer will always have problems with..
But you clearly dont know what youre talking about.
Answer: Q 1: Because he has aged, and most of the people want to search every nook and cranny for his negative performances so they can blast them on the internet.
Q 2: Not at all, haters seem too good at forgetting even recently how Fed trolled them when he became No. 1 at 31 years of age with his most competitive rivals all in their absolute prime, and how he humbled two of them on his way to the Wimbledon trophy with a bad back.
They forget the fact that he has been playing 2013 with a worse bad back than last year and how he took "Mr. Fantastic" to 5 sets at AO with that.
Calling it over for a guy who was No.1 in the world 5 1/2 months ago, seriously, some people have drunk the instant hate medicine.
Novak is still good, Rafa is declining plus injuries, Murray seems to have passed his peak already or he is not consistent enough to be a threat to RF's road to another GS.
BQ : There is definitely a possibility, Novak and Murray will be on the decline very soon, and as you saw how good his performances were when he pushed himself and played a full schedule last year, he'll definitely perform better now that he's taking it easy and cutting his schedule.
Doesn't matter what the haters think of him, or even his fans, nobody has the right to decide someone's destiny, if he believes he can do it, trust me, he will... Fed4Life

Wimbledon 2013: Roger Federer tips Andy Murray to be the biggest ...

What are Roger Federers chances of winning the Australian Open 2013?
As most of you will know Rafael Nadal (Federers kryptonite) has pulled out of the tournament. What do you think Rogers chances are of winning this now. Rafa is the only player he truly struggles against and on a good day he can beat Novak and Andy but can he do it back to back in a best of 5 set match format? What do you guys think, how do things look for him?
Not looking to bet or anything. Just curious on where he stands!
Big Federer fan!
Answer: Generally, slow hard courts and slow courts favor Novak the most as seen in their World Tour Final match and many previous, while fast courts favor Federer (Wimbledon and Cincinnati last year). Match-ups surface wise do mean something, but aren't crucial. When Federer has a good serving day, he is almost unbeatable, but he doesn't have that aura of invincibility anymore.
Of course, being a 17 time Grand Slam champion, not a Slam can go by when he isn't among the very top favorites to win it. The courts are very slow and he could win it without a problem if he avoids the best players. Given his luck with draws, I'm pretty sure he will have Ferrer in his Semifinal Half and will reach the final. If he plays Murray, then a win is guaranteed, but if he plays Djokovic, it's a different story. They played twice at the Aussie Open and Novak won 3-0 on both occasions. A final means different circumstances, but I'll give Novak the slight edge. He has been the more impressive player in the past 2 and a half years.
These are the chances in my opinion:
Novak: 40%
Federer- 30%
Murray- 20%
Del Potro- 5%
The rest- 5%

What does it mean for Roger Federer if he isnt able to defend his Wimbledon title?
How will a loss at Wimbledon affect his ranking? What about the rest of 2013? What about the rest of his career?
Answer: If Roger Federer doesn't get to the final of the 2013 Wimbledon Championships . . . his career is over! I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but a Grand Slam Tournament is worth a whopping 2000 points . . . how many weeks in a row do you have to play to earn back those points? TOO MANY!
Grass is his favorite surface and if he was only playing grass court players, Roger would have the edge . . . the fact is, however, he is playing against the most aggressive threesome in the history of the sport . . . he better eat his Wheaties! . . . or these guys will snatch his lunch bag & eat it right in front of him!

Why is it that Maria Sharapova can beat most any other player in the world except Serena?
Serena destroyed Maria AGAIN . . . this time in the final of the 2013 Madrid Open . . . however, this time it was on clay, Serenas worst surface. Why cant Maria seem to beat Serena . . . anywhere?
Answer: They both hit the daylights out of the ball, which is what many super-champions have done in the past.
Unfortunately for Maria, Serena is a better slugger than she is. Maria doesn't seem to have a "Plan B," for example: Dinks, drop shots, lobs, moon balls, slices, slow balls, etc to force Serena to provide all the pace.
Arthur Ashe beat Jimmy Connors in the 1975 Wimbledon final by using a number of slow balls that forced Jimmy to provide all the speed on the ball. In addition, the slow shots messed up Jimmy's timing, as he was used to hitting with guys who tried to out-gun him.

How many more slams can the following women win?
The last 6 slams have been won by Serena, Vika and Sharapova. And they are pretty consistent, even if they dont win they usually go deep in the slams.
So how many more slams do you predict the following could win?
Serena(16)
Sharapova(4)
Azarenka(2)
Will Kvitova find her game and add to her Wimbledon 2011 title?
4 very good, in-depth answers. Very hard to choose a BA. Appreciate the input.
I meant to say 3 good answers.
Answer: With her continued form, I can see Serena capturing any slam she enters. However, it will ultimately depend on her health and her competition. If she remains in the game until 2016, I can see her final grand slam count to be in the low 20s.
If Serena is absent from the draw, or has a freak loss in the early rounds, Sharapova has an excellent chance of gaining some more slams. But, her best chances of winning a slam would be at the French Open. I can see her winning 1-2 more slams.
Azarenka is doing well in the hard courts and has shown that she has the game to beat Sharapova, and can compete at a high level with Serena (see US Open 2012, Doha 2013). She's still young and has the chance to improve her game on all surfaces. She's a great contender at the US and Australian Open so I can see her doing well there in the future. I think her final slam count could be anywhere from 6-10.
Kvitova has the weapons to do well, and at one point was considered to be the next big thing. The pressure got to her and we haven't seen her at her best since her Wimbledon win. She's lacking in the mental department so until she improves that, I think there are other competitors that can pull a win off her. If she suddenly improves in the next couple years, she could add 1-3 titles to her current count.

Which is better of the 2 female tennis stars?
Victoria Azarenka or Maria Sharapova?
I like them both and enjoy their tennis competitiveness.
I didnt mean to compare their past records but how they are playing at this time in their careers?
Answer: Overall, Maria Sharapova is a better player. She has won 4 Grand Slam titles (Wimbledon 2004 - US Open 2006 - Australian Open 2008 - French Open 2012), and she has been to 7 Grand Slams finals. She is the sixth woman to complete the career Grand Slam in the Open Era. Maria has 28 singles titles and an Olympic Silver Medal.
Victoria Azarenka is two years younger than Maria. She has won 2 Grand Slam titles (Australian Open 2012 and 2013), and she has been to 3 Grand Slams finals. Victoria has 16 singles titles and an Olympic Bronze Medal.
I don't know exactly how long they both have been ranked #1, but I think Azarenka was ranked #1 longer than Maria.
As for their head-to-head, Vika leads 7-5. Azarenka had an amazing 2012 year, where she was better than Maria: they met 6 times, and Vika won 4/6 of their matches. Last time they met however was during WTA championships and Maria won 6-4 6-2.
So overall, I would say Maria is better than Victoria, but Vika has been better recently.

Have you heard the new controversy about the French Opens seeding system?
In order to avoid a potential Nadal/Djokovic or Nadal/Federer QF, the French Open committee is considering giving Nadal a higher seeding, so the potential clash happens in the finals instead.
Which I find it unfair for the player who is going to be seeded #5 instead of Nadal (unless he becomes No.4 in the world before the FO). And I find it inflated to announce that one month before the beginning of the tournament. Basically they want to do just like the- criticized by some players- Wimbledons seeding system. Thus, they will take the players results during the clay season to establish the seeding system. Just like Wimbledon is doing, except that the grass season is way shorter than the clay season!
Heres an article about it: http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/04/21/tennis-french-nadal-idUKL3N0D807W20130421
And another one more detailed: http://tennis.si.com/2013/04/11/the-toss-rafael-nadal-french-open-seed/
What do you think about it? Do you agree or disagree?
Answer: If this tennis world were mine, I would seed the Top 5 men's players at the 2013 French Open like this:
#1 - Novak Djokovic
#2 - Rafael Nadal
#3 - Roger Federer
#4 - David Ferrer
#5 - Andy Murray
Novak has earned the honor of being #1 at EVERY event he enters, other than that, there are no other players who should be seeded ahead of Nadal. Rafa and Novak should be seeded as far away from each other as possible and should not be able to meet prior to the finals . . . even by chance.
The two of them have played the best on this surface over the last couple of years, they were the finalist in the 2012 Roland Garros tournament.
The other top players's clay court pedigree don't stack up to these two currently and should be ranked below Nadal and Djokovic.
All of the other player are aware of the superiority of these two players on a claycourt, whether they admit it to the press . . . or not.

Did Andy Murray play in the French Open 2013?
I didnt see him in any matches or hear about him. Did he play and bomb out early somehow, or is he injured or something? And if hes injured, will he play in Wimbledon?
Answer: No he didn't play, he sat it out because an old back injury was flaring up. So he rested and got treatment for it so he would play at Wimbledon.

What difference do you find between 2011 Novak and 2013 Novak ?
When I watch his matches he seems to be playing at the same level, but of course the results arent nearly as good as 2011. I believe his opponents got better this year and he was also suffering from an ankle injury. What you think ?
Answer: Novak was probably more motivated in 2011. He, himself, said his greatest dreams were to win Wimbledon and to become world #1, which he accomplished almost simultaneously that year.
Now, he's the best in the world and has won almost everything there is to win (notable exception being the French). I'm not saying he isn't trying to do well, but the fire might be burning a little lower.

Is losing from match point/s up the toughest way to lose a match in tennis?
Being one point from the match and sometimes on multiple occasions, has got to be a devastating way to lose. Especially in Grand Slams, where you can only play once a year.
Below is the number of times the current top 10 mens tennis players have lost a match from at least 1 mp up. If anyone is interested.
As of 2013 Wimbledon, career statistics:
Djokovic - 2, 0 in Grand Slams
Murray - 5, 0 in Grand Slams
Federer - 13, 4 in Grand Slams
Ferrer - 5, 0 in Grand Slams
Nadal - 5, 0 in Grand Slams
Berdych - 8, 0 in Grand Slams
Tsonga - 4, 1 in Grand Slams
Del Potro - 1, 0 in Grand Slams
Gasquet - 6, 2 in Grand Slams
Wawrinka - 4, 0 in Grand Slams
From this group, 3/7 GS losses from mp up have come at the hand of Djokovic.
(Federer, Us Open, 10, 11) (Tsonga, French Open, 2012)
