How do I disable Steam auto-start up before installing steam?
Ive already installed steam but every time I try to open it, it says that I already have steam running. Ive already checked my task manager and Steam doesnt show up. A solution I found was to disable the automatic start up when windows start up. I cant disable it because I cant even open it. Is there a way to disable it without opening the Steam client? Or was there an option before installing it where I can not allow it to start up automatically?
Answer: Ctrl-alt-del
Task manager
Go to the processes tab
Find steam, it'll most likely be the one using the most resources, it will be called steam.exe
Then right click, end process and launch steam again

How long should you steam a cleaned crab?
I know to steam a whole Dungeness for 7-8 minutes per pound, but how long would you steam a crab that has been cleaned of all inedible portions beforehand? (just the leg, claw, and purse segments)
The crab is live. I would be cleaning and cooking it myself.
Answer: If it's uncooked, you would steam it for the exact amount of time even though you're only steaming the edible portions

What is difference between a steam trap and a steam vent?
For small steam heating systems, what is the difference? How does it relate to one and two pipe systems? I have Sunrad radiators with two pipes connected to them at the bottom, and they have the kind of trap/vent that opens and closes when the heat comes up/goes down.
Answer: the location of the device will tell you if it is a trap or a vent. a steam vent is installed at the top of the radiator. there is a threaded tapping on the outside of the radiator for this device.its function is to relieve air lock caused by steam pressure as radiator is heating up in temperature. this device will release air and assure good circulation of steam within radiator. a steam trap governs and controls steam water condensate returning to the boiler. this control is located at the bottom of the radiator return outlet piping on a two pipe system that has a separate supply and return line. this trap does not release any air into your room like a steam vent does. just remember, if it hisses it is a steam trap operating properly. if it hammers it is a steam trap problem.

How can I keep steam from the dishwasher from ruining a laminate countertop?
Our (fairly new) dishwasher does not have a steam guard. The steam vent is near the top, and the moisture is beginning to warp our laminate countertop. I contacted the store, and this model does not include a steam guard, and no such part is available for it. Weve pulled the dishwasher out as far as it can go. Right now, were using a piece of aluminum foil to re-direct the steam each time we use it, but that is a hassle AND ends up creating a small pool of water on the floor (which was, of course, beginning to ruin the laminate flooring, so now we have to put a towel down on the floor along with the aluminum foil on the dishwasher). Any ideas?
Answer: Seal the steam vents with Caulk. There's really no reason why those vents are there other than aesthetics (the manufacturer does this to make it look like the dishwasher is working) The steam will naturally dissapate inside the washer.

Can a futon mattress be steam cleaned?
My carpet steam cleaner has a hand tool attachment for cleaning upholstery. I cannot find a tag on the futon mattress though to see if it says "S" or "W" though.
Answer: Yes you can steam clean this, but you really need to make sure that you don't get it soaked. IF you get it to wet then it will dry on the outside and not on the inside and you could have the possibility of it molding on the inside.
Make sure you use just enough water to penetrate the material, then I might suggest hanging it out side to dry.

How to install a steam game without activation code?
Hello, my friend gave me a steam game called Sid Meiers Civilization V. Unfortunately, he used the activation code on his own steam account not knowing it would not work later on. So what my question is, is how to bypass the steam activation process and just get to the setup?
Answer: You can't. Steam is also a DRM software and they will not let you have a duplicate copy of the game that your friend already owns because that's technically illegal distribution of copyrighted material. You have to either buy a new copy of the game or risk getting your whole steam account getting revoked or suspended for trying to bypass the activation process.

How do I re-download steam games I already purchased without having to re-purchase them?
My desktop with all my steam games crashed because of storm surge, so I had to get a new one. The problem is, most of my steam games went with it. These games are not downloaded on this computer, and I dont know how to get them back without buying them all over again. It doesnt seem fair to buy them again, how do I get them back?
Answer: When you buy a game, what you're really purchasing is a license of ownership. You paid for it, it's yours forever. When it comes to steam, it keeps track of games you buy in your games library. It'll have a list of every single game you've ever purchased, downloaded or not.
All you have to do on your new computer is log in your Steam account, and you'll see your old videogames you've bought in your library. All you need to do is choose to redownload them, and you can do this for every single game you bought as many times as you want. So a storm surge can wipe out your hard drive over and over, you can just keep on redownloading them.

What are the good causes of the invention of the steam engine? What are the bad?
Steam engines cause a lot of stuff. Good and bad. I really need to know them for a project.
Answer: Good:
-steam power is generally cheap to use, just add water ^_^
-some of the good causes was that it brought the idea of energy and electricity to life, it was the first form of non-physical engine (first engine that a human didn't have to work for continuously to work)
Bad:
-There are other, more powerful means of energy which are used more often.
-Steam engines require the burning of coal or some other flammable. This produces heat to evaporate the water into steam and drive a turbine to create energy. This means you need a form of heat, which usually gives off Carbon-dioxide, which is very bad for the environment.

I have heard about an oven with steam. What cooking advantages are there to an oven with steam?
I understand steam would be good for cleaning the oven, but what about cooking? Are there dishes that are better in ovens with steam?
Answer: As far as baking goes, a bain-marie (water bath) that would produce steam is generally used for things like cheesecakes and custards. Where the steam will keep the products from drying out, and also from browning (making cooking meats in it come out like they were boiled basically). Also the steam works similar to convection, where there is uniformity of temperture throughout the whole oven. An oven that is specifically designed to cook with steam would be a pretty specialized thing though.
Also, in the industry there are large devices that use steam to keep large quantities of food warm for service, without drying the food out, but they are more of warming devices than ovens.

After steam cleaning how long does the carpet take to dry?
I steam cleaning my sons bedroom carpeting after lunch and was wondering how long it usually takes before we can walk on it again. I have my air conditioning on and a fan going in the room.
steam cleaned not cleaning.
Answer: depends on which meathod of steam cleaning you use.
For most portable units up to 2 days to dry. Even though most portable units are not true steam cleaners they are often called so.
For a truck mount steam cleaning unit typically 8-10 hours.
If the truck mount cleaner does extra drying about 4 hours.
There are truck mount steam cleaning units that are capable of 1-2 hour drying times (the hydramaster rotary drymaster machine) but these units are fairly rare.
High humity can cause longer drying times. You can walk on the carpets if they are wet, however make sure your feet are clean, since the carpets are wet they will pick up dirt faster, then when they are dry
