How did the British colonization in Egypt impede the development of the country?
After the world war two .. Egypt did not develop at all during the occupation of the British troops, do you guys have any ideas why ?
Answer: British colonization was from 1882 to 1951 and it wasn't a post wwII era.
During these years the colonials turned Egypt into a huge cultivation for the British empire. This declined other aspects in Egypt. It is something which analogs how the US tap into the gulf and saudi Arabia now. You can see how they are rich but relatively simple minded and poorly educated. While the poor countries like Egypt and Syria are more educated compared to them. The only difference is mass education which the colonial world always fight and tyrants always fears.
During this era non Egyptians from european and Mediterranean nations and even Armenians used to do the hi tech and more complicated tasks. While the vast population was simply living in illiteracy. Something which analogs how the KSA and gulf arabs are into now, foreign hi tech workers and a huge poorly educated native population.
The colonial system always restricted education and military ranks into a selective elite. In the 1930s the pressure of pre wwII era forced the colonials to allow the non elite to enter the militery as officers. This proved to be a fatal mistake. These people made a coup less than 20 years later.
The post colonial era witnessed a huge mass education system which caused a demographic change in Egypt. Nearly everything Egypt got now can be traced to the huge infrastructure the soviet helped to build in the 1950s and 60s.

How did ancient Egypt get to the hellhole it is now?
Egypt was once a mighty empire that was prosperous & free compared to now.
But now theyre an Islamic hellhole that has issued an arrest warrant for Terry Jones.
Where did this once great people go wrong?
Answer: It all started with ALexander the Great who enslaved Egypt, and left it for the Ptolemy's to rule.
Then Rome took it. Since that time it had always been in the grip of, first Western invaders then Eastern back and forth.
In the 20thC the British had control, and when it was made independent Nasser created so much trouble that the West moved to continue controlling it from the outside.
For the last 30 years, the Western powers have funded a vicious dictator (Mubarek) who was recently overthrown, but the military are still in control and they have a long road to get democracy - a democracy that the west (UK & US) have denied it.
You can't expect a country that has not been under the control of its own people for 2400 years to shine in 2 years.

When visiting to Egypt for 6 days how much money should I carry for shopping and dining?
Im going to Egypt for a field trip from school for 6 days. The hotel and lunch and dinner has been paid for. Would 1000USD be enough for extra meals and shopping?
Answer: Wow that's loads of money if everything else is taken care of..........
compared to the west meals out are much cheaper in Egypt
and shopping is very reasonable but you can lower prices if
you have the cheek to haggle as they do tend to over price things
for foreigners as they know we are a bit embarassed to barter.
If you are shy about doing this then just
walk away and for sure the shop keeper will shout out a lower
price as you leave his establishment so not to loose your custom.
Egypt is a wonderful place to visit and sure you will have a great time.
Tip: take one of those thin beach wraps with you. I always carry one
in my bag to either cover my head or shoulders if needed. It is not an
obligation but is does show respect for the local culture and people

How to write a letter to Egypt keeping their culture and values in mind?
Hi there. For an assinment I must write a formal business letter to Egypt explaining that a product we provide them is late. I need to write it so that I include their culture and ways of letter writing in mind so that I come off sincere and polite. What are different ways I could do this? Are there popular salutations, etc that people in Egypt use?
Answer: There is nothing special with business letters in Egypt, not like East Asia where letters are full of "Thank you in advance" and things like that.
You write straight to the point. Something like:
Dear Sir,
This is to introduce XYZ corporation. We are the manufacturers of JKL products and so on.

Is it safe to travel to Egypt right now?
Im planning on going to Egypt in August. I was just wondering how safe it is right now. I have heard different news about how its not safe. Just wondering if anybody could give me advice.
Answer: There lies your problem. The news.
What you hear on tv is not even remotely close as to the truth so ignore it and get your information from reliable sources.
I have traveled to Egypt several times and never had an issue. However, just don't travel during political unrest because it can be calm one minute then complete chaos the next.
Egyptians are the most kindest, warm hearted people you will ever encounter.
Are you traveling alone? Be on alert as with any other country you go to. There are bad apples. Depending on where you go, the men can be a little aggressive with the cat calls and stares. Trust me, a foreigner sticks out like a sore thumb in Egypt so expect this. Just ignore it.
Egypt is a beautiful country. Its rich history adds to the mystique and wonder.
Have a great trip and from one traveler to another...you will not regret it.
Salaam Alaikum!

How come egypt is only the 16th most populated country?
I just dont get it because egypt is one of the oldest if not oldest active country yet they have such a small population compared to how long its been around. United states is third and we only been around a couple hundred years. China is first which is expected but they been around bout as long as egypt yet have almost 20 times as many people.
Answer: Egypt was a great power during ancient times, but as time advances, you find that for high populations to be sustainable, you need large tracts of arable land and resources.
The USA and China dwarfs Egypt in size, and being mostly desert, Egypt cannot compete with most other countries.

Why dont the people of Egypt rebel and overthrow their corrupt government?
Its clear the government of Egypt is headed by corrupt puppets who only care about money, so why arent Egyptians doing much about it? Or are they?
Answer: lets see first who try to overthrow the government:
1)the poor people because they dont have money, there wages dont rise and there is inflation: what can they do overthrow the government.they might protest but they dont have the knowledge to co-ordinate strikes for example.becuase they can be easily bribed by officers (e.g.hadeek 100 geneh yala we temshi men hena)
2)the middle class:they hav tried several times.there was the girl who organised a protest in april last year.she went to jail for some time but was freed a few days later or sth.it failed because information leaked before it happened
3)the muslim brotherhood, the biggest opposition party is banned, because it is against the law in egypt to form a political party based on religion, so you see everywhere in the news that this and that of the muslim brotherhood were taken into custody, etc.
because the egyptians are not working together to overthrow the government, it will never happen.also, many governments are corrupt not only in egypt.in addition, the egyptian people are extremely lazy (e.g. ya 3am e7na malna, ana wad 3'alban, ana mesh el wazeer, enta fakerni meen ya 3am, howa ana 7elti 7aga...etc)

How will what is happening in Egypt effect the USA and other countries religions?
The Muslim brotherhood is itching to take over Egypt and become the next world power. Will any religion be the true answer to Egypts problems? How will we as Christians deal with the Muslim brotherhood take over of any country?
Answer: When any country goes into total chaos, it will effect many countries and many aspects of those countries... It will raise more questions than answers when it comes to the way people see things, religion probably being on top of the list.. Example : some of the answers you are getting !!
The typical *not gonna happen*, *Christian prosecution*, *Muslims being scape goats*, etc.... all smoke screens.... There is an agenda, and that agenda is hiding behind OTHER things.... A certain group is *itching* to take over more than just Egypt.... I will deal with it by *prayer*, is there anything else we can do ?? go in peace.... God bless

What is happening in Egypt that has to do with the USA?
I heard that Egypt banned all electronics or something like that.
Now I saw an article on Yahoo homepage saying that Egypt is going to affect USA.
Can somebody explain in short what is happening in Egypt?
Answer: Well, many people in Egypt are staging protests against the current reigning President, Mubarak, who has been in power for 30 years. The reason is because according to them he's done nothing to improve the unemployment situation, poverty, and general problems in Egyptian society, and probably in fact made it worse. Also, many in the country and young unemployed and therefore frustrated. And there are accusations that Mubarak has been corrupt and rigged elections to vote himself as President. When he got "elected", he gave the opposition only 3% of the seats.
What does this have to do with America? Well, Egypt is one of America's biggest allies in the Middle East apart from Israel. Why? America does support Israel and most of us know that, but Mubarak was one Islamic leader albiet totalitatian who was moderate enough to become a very good ally of the US.
How does this affect America now? If the protests succeed and Mubarak is thrown out of power, it is very likely that someone who is extremist, like the Muslim Brotherhood, will come into power. And that's bad news for the US cos it loses an ally (potentially) Mubarak and the US are on good terms, so the US doesn't want to speak up against him directly. All the same, the USA has to make some statement because what is in question in Egypt is a matter of democracy and international concern. So the USA has tried to be diplomatic, appealing to Mubarak to introduce reforms and listen to his people.
I hope this answers your question.

The history of Egypt is broken into different periods. Why do these differentiations matter?
The history of Egypt is broken into different periods. Why do these differentiations matter?
I went to an ancient Egypt museum, and i noticed that the history broke into different periods. I wondering why do these differentiations matter? Thanks for your sharing ideas.
Answer: The History of Egypt was written by the priest Manetho in the 1st Century. He was the one who classified the Pharaohs into Dynasties. Namely 30 of them. He based this on the available knowledge about the parentage of the successive Pharaohs and their places of origin. The History written by Manetho and other valuable documents like the King List of Turin and the one written on the walls od the Temple of Osiris in Abydos built by Seti II,father of Ramses II provide a clear image of the whole Pharaonic Period. This would be the basis on which 19 th Century Egyptologist of different nationalities, established the today well known division in Early,Middle,New,Late Kingdom, the 3 Intermediate Periods and the Persian Period.
Some of the scientists involved were : Brugsch - Breasted - Mariette - Lieblein - Bunsen etc.
The different period matter in the sense that they usually represent a break in the history of Pharaonic Egypt through invasion or decay of the central power.( Intermediate Periods) The rise of new dynasties would bring change in various ways: Different Capital - Rise of a God to the highest status etc. The mention of one of these gives us immediately the grand picture of that precise time and gives us considerable help in making sense of Egypt's more than 3000 years Pharaonic History.
