Whiplash
Ronald Reagans acting career was moribund long before he became governor of California, not to mention president, but he knew that most politicians had to beg for the kind of visibility that came his way naturally from his Hollywood days. So even though he was caricatured and satirized in just about every way possible, he never seemed to be tempted to sue anyone to prevent them from using his image. As a movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger was still a going concern when he became governor of California last year. And if anything proves that he is still more actor than politician, it is the lawsuit he recently filed against the company that manufactures and sells a satiric bobblehead doll in his image. The grinning, head-wagging parody wears a business suit and a bandoleer and carries an assault rifle. Mr. Schwarzenegger has every right to claim full legal ownership of himself and his image as an actor and to guard it jealously against infringement. Its a little tougher for him to do so as a politician. A company cannot legally make money by selling ordinary Schwarzenegger merchandise without his permission. But it can do so if something is done to the image to make it satirical or a commentary. Thats something political figures have to learn to live with.. Editorial says Gov Arnold Schwarzeneggers lawsuit against company that manufactures and sells satiric bobblehead doll in his image proves he is still more actor than politician; says he should know that as a politician he belongs to the people now, especially if they are making fun of him

THE experimental filmmaker Warren Sonbert died of AIDS complications in 1995 before he could complete Whiplash, an aching evocation of the fleetingness of experience, but not before leaving detailed instructions on how the film should be edited. What he did not specify, however, was who should do the work. In distress, his companion, Ascension Serrano, consulted a psychic, who assured him that help with the work would come by sea. The next day Mr. Serrano received a picture postcard of an ocean liner from the filmmaker Jeff Scher, a longtime friend and former student of Sonberts.
