2013 U.S. Open Men's Preview: Djokovic the favorite thanks to ...
Rafael Nadal has dominated on the hard-court swing leading up to the US Open. Has he done enough to reach Novak Djokovic's level?
Will Rafa with the US Open first or will Roger win the French first?
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have each won 3 out of the 4 grand slams. Roger has won everything except the French Open and Rafa has won everything except the US Open. Who do you think will win the slam they dont have first? Do you think Roger will win the French Open before Rafa wins the US Open or vise versa?
Answer: Nadal is definitely going to win the US Open before Federer wins the French. Nadal is an absolute unstoppable force at Roland Garros. He has never even lsot a match there which is an unbelievable statistic. So i don't think Fed is going to be winning the French anytime soon. In fact, I don't believe that Federer will ever win the French. Now if we look at Nadal, we see that he has won a slam on all 3 surfaces. Now obviously the hard court at the Australian Open is way different than the hard court at the US Open, but still, it just shows that Rafa is not a one surface guy. He can win anywhere. And with Federer getting older, losing his number one ranking, and all of that stuff, Nadals chances of winning the US Open are getting larger and larger. And plus, Eventually Federer will retire. He is way older than Nadal. And when that heppens, i expect Nadal to snag a few US Opens. I do not think that either of these two outcomes will happen this year, but trust me, Nadal will win the US before Fed wins the French.

What tips can you give me for this year’s US Open?
So the US Open is finally here and will go on until September 12 from New York City. As one of the best entertainment events in tennis, I’d love to hear from you on any tips for improving my own game. Anything you can suggest for this year’s US Open?
Answer: Hello Andy. I am a huge fan of your game and I have supported you since you began playing.
Since your magnificent win the 2003 U.S. Open, you have shown tremendous growth as a person and a tennis player. I hope that you win this title once again, and i offer you some advice. After watching your game for so long, since you were 18, i hope to provide you with some information that could be beneficial to your game.
Physical (shot making):
Serve- This is without a doubt, the best part of your game. If this is going well for you, then your entire game will surely go well for you. Make sure you have a high first serve percent, which easily translates into winning more points. However, instead of going for aces all the time, slow down your serve and go for placement. This ensures that you dictate the point from start to end. Try to vary it up and go for more serve and volleys to throw off your opponent. Second Serve- I like your kick serve and feel that it should hold up well. Im not worried about this part in your game- make sure you get high serve percents.
Forehand- I recall in your US Open win, this shot was much more aggressive and you used to hit the ball at a flater angle then your swing wasn't as loopy. I can understand why you made this change to a loopier forehand, as it is more consistant. But remeber you need to be aggresive if you wish to make a deep run again. Choose your time and place to be aggresive, but do it well. This dosn't have to be with every point, but it has to be more prevailent in your game. You need to player shorter point at times and end thing quicker, otherwise you might be in for some long five set matchs.
Backhand- This shot is highly improved from your US Open run in 2003. In your latest Wimby final with Federer, I saw some thing that I didnt know your backhand could do. Once again, don't think of this shot as a weakness. Vary your shots, go for more inside out backhands down the line. That has worked wonders for you. As long as you keep this shot deep in your opponets court, you should be fine. Again, be more aggresive at times.
Volley/Overhead- Under your new coach, this shot is much better than before. I have seen some of the incredible shots you can make with this. I wouldn't recommend too frequently, as most player now have great pasing shots. However, this can win you many points. I would love to see more serve and vollies, dont chip and charge as much. Also, if you go for an approach shot, make sure that ball that you're hitting is a short one. Otherwise, I have seen you hit good approach shots, but your opponet has too much time to react. Overhead is one of the greatest today. No complaints.
Drop shot- You need to use this shot more as it will throw your opponent off guard most of the time. I have seen the fake forehands then drop shots you do. People know you as the man with the serve. Show them you have some touch as well.
Slice- Be very careful on which opponents you use this shot with. On some of the players with better footwork, this will lead you down the wrong way. Otherwise, with players that have trouble handling the change of pace, this shot is heaven. I have seen you rely on this shot a little more than I'd like. Dont try a forehand slice on this court.
Return- I see that you like to be more defensive on the return sometimes. Take your chances with second serves, just relax and go for it sometime. Try not to chip returns too much, although they have a place, i think you just need to go after the shot sometimes.
Others: Very good passing shot. Need improvement on footwork, but not a big cause for concern. Rely less on spin. Fitness has improved... continue and keep matches short. The longer matches you have, the more tired you will become down the tournement.
Mental: You are a hard worker. Whenever you do something, you give it 100 percent. I expect the same here. You need to take your anger out less on the umpire, because it just wastes energy. Dosn't matter if they made a horrible call, you just have to keep your mind on the match. Forget your Wimbly loss last year. That was some of the best tennis you have every played. If you can play like that this US Open.... you will without a doubt win. Remeber, this is your home turf, get the crowd into your matches. Also, alway have a clear game plan before you start, and whenever you decide on a shot, stick to it, and go for it. Forget the past and look toward the future.

past US Open winners celebrating win with their father commercial, played during the 2013 US Open at Merion?
This commercial aired during the 2013 US Open at Merion, it has some of the past US Open winners celebrating with their dads! Also has a catchy song relating to the topic. Could anyone please give me a link to the commercial and the song played in it?
Answer: The USGA claims it sets up the U.S. Open every year to identify the best golfer in the world. At Merion Golf Club this week, the organization is doing an even better job of highlighting the best golfers in the world without a major championship to their credit.
At the close of Saturday’s grueling third round of the 2013 U.S. Open, only two golfers among the top 15 players within six shots of the lead have won a major championship, meaning Sunday could be an epic day for one of a handful or so major-less golfers seeking a career-defining moment at Merion.

Why is the ranking of Kim Clijsters slid from 3 to 5 even after she retained her US open title?
Her ranking points remain the same (5325) prior to US open while those whose performance in this years US open improved compared to last year gained some points. Shouldnt she gain some points for retaining her title?
Answer: No. You gain ranking points by doing better in a tournament than you did the previous year. You lose ranking points by doing worse than the previous year. You keep the same ranking points if you finish in the same position as last year.
So going into the tournament, the best Kim could do in ranking points was to stay the same. If she had not won the tournament, her ranking points would have dropped. That's why her overall ranking slipped, because some of the women did better than last year. It was literally impossible for Clijsters to have improved her ranking based upon defending her title. Might seem strange, but that's the way it's set up.

How to get best tickets for US open 2011?
What are the best bang for the buck tickets to get for US open 2011 and when is the best time to get them?
Additionally, what section has seats with a good view, whether its promenade or loge level?
Answer: Here is a link to ticketmaster which provides the tickets for the US Open.
http://www.ticketmaster.com/search?tm_link=tm_header_search&q=us+open&search.x=0&search.y=0
They have all the different days available. You can choose if you want a show court ticket or just a ground pass. For me personally I would chose an Arthur Ashe ticket on either Day 1 or Day 2 because the best players play there and they aren't as expensive as later on in the tournament!
Good luck!
EDIT - Here is a map of the seating chart in the Arthur Ashe Stadium:
http://www.ticketmaster.com/seatingchart/237621/18730
And here is a photo taken from the Promenade seating:
http://images.wikia.com/genealogy/images/2/29/Arthur_ashe_stadium_interior.jpg
Promenade seating is the cheapest and lodge level is the second cheapest, so whichever you have the money to spend for. Lodge level is slightly closer, but trust me you get a much better view of the courts from the Promenade than it looks in the photo, plus they are a lot cheaper!

How much would us open tickets be?
hi i was just wondering how much tickets are for the us open for tennis. i dont want to know the tickets with lodging included i just want to know the basic price range, and probably theyd be one of the least expensive tickets. thanks!
Answer: Here is a link from the US Open web site:
http://www.usopen.org/Tickets/Individual_Tickets/
I've heard that seats in the uppermost deck of Arthur Ashe stadium are a really, really *long* way from the court. They are probably the least expensive, however. Normally, the closer you get to the finals, the more expensive tickets become.
Try to plan so that you have flexibility in case of rain. I believe the USTA has plans to build an stadium with a roof, but I don't think that has been completed yet.
Probably the least expensive ticket would be a "grounds pass" where you can walk around the site and look at matches on all the outside courts, but you cannot sit and watch in any of the larger stadiums.

Are grounds admission tickets at the US Open ever sold out before the day?
I want to drive to New York to see the US Open tennis tournament Sunday (The middle weekend). Their online ticketing system is saying there is nothing available, but my friends have gone in the past, had the same problem online, and just walked up that morning and bought tickets. However, that was on Day 1 or 2 of the tournament. Its a long drive and I want to make sure I can get in to the event. I called the Ticketmaster number and they said the phone box office was closed. Any help?
Answer: You can usually get ground admission on the same day, but not any of the stadium day or night sessions. Ground admission just gets you into the US Open area, but not entrance to any of the stadium courts :)

Answer: My friends and I have been asking ourselves the very same question. I've seen lots of athletes with Evian bottles that contain orange and dark red liquids as well. This is my guess--the US Open has a product placement agreement where athletes must drink from an Evian bottle, but some athletes remove the water and fill with Powerade, etc.
I'll be watching this question myself just to see whether I'm right or not, which I'm probably not.

Going into the US Open, what characteristics of a golfers game are most important at Pebble Beach?
What set of skills are most important for a golfer to have at Pebble Beach. Obviously, being a US Open, all skills of their game will be tested but I want to know what are the key aspects of a golfers game that are most important. Driving distance, driving accuracy, greens in regulation, scrambling, sand play, putts per round etc?
Answer: Tough question to answer because a US Open set up on any course is going to test a player more than the normal set up at the same course because the USGA wants a stern test of golf for the Open....not the best field. Typically though @ Pebble you have to drive it straight and especially @ an Open as they usually grow out the rough longer so the bomb & gouge method is much harder to play. You also have to be able to lag putt well as Pebble has some seriously tough greens anyway with lots of undulations & breaks, but they'll make them lightning quick for the Open! You also have to be able to work the ball both ways...#1 for the pin locations and to combat the wind they'll certainly see. I think we'll have a newbie break through to win the Open this year....no Tiger or Phil I don't think.
