What is so different about all the delivery options for the new york times?
I was looking into subscribing for the New York Times and on the website there is so many different delivery options and i was wondering what is so different about them from the weekender, 7 days a week, Saturday Sunday, Sunday Only, and weekday Monday-Friday what is so different about them i would like something with the Science Times what has that i would appreciate it if someone answer my question?
Answer: they're just providing a lot of delivery options so you can maximize value -- it is expensive to subscribe to the Times. many new yorkers leave town every weekend, or travel for business during the week a lot, or simply don't have time to read the paper every day of the week. a few folks might be choosing a particular subscription plan because they're particularly interested in a once-a-week section...but if you're mostly interested in one section, reading it online seems much more sensible.
Science Times is published on Tuesdays, and much of it is available at http://www.nytimes.com/pages/science/index.html.

How do I become a photographer for the New York Times?
Im 20 years old and inspired to work in the field of photography.
I feel I have a natural talent and passion for photography.
Im just curious what would be the best route on how to work for a company such as the New York Times.
Im assuming getting a degree in photography, but what else would you suggest?
Answer: Now, keep in mind, that I'm younger than you, but I have been looking at the different paths to that type of job for months upon months now.
I think that a degree in photography is pretty much a must. I think all art based industry are fueled by people having connections, so I'm only looking into going to school in areas that have that type of community; NYC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, etc. Also, virtually no one goes directly to working at highly prestigious publications like the New York Times. I think the best thing you can do is do everything you possibly can to get other people to see your work. Try to get published in really small publications that may not even fit your work that well. Create a flickr account and interact with other photographers. Just, whatever you can do to get noticed.
That is my best advice, and it's all pretty obvious stuff. but I tried, right?

When did the new york times start printing color photography?
i am doing a mid term project and its based on a newspaper in 1951. im not sure if the new york times started printing color photography before or after 1951, so im not sure what color my pictures are going to be. please help!
Answer: According to Wikipedia:
"[The New York Times] stayed with an eight-column format until September 1976, years after other papers had switched to six, and it was one of the last newspapers to adopt color photography, with the first color photograph on the front page appearing on October 16, 1997."
Prior to that, on June 6th, 1993, full color was used for the first time in the Sunday Book Review section, according to New York Times' corperate website. "Other Sunday sections – Travel, Arts and Leisure, and Real Estate – soon follow[ed]."
I've seen no reference to the VJ Day photograph mentioned above in my research.

What is a legitimate alternative to the New York Times?
I have become fed up with the New York Times. I read it daily, but lately I have become very dissatisfied with it. The only section somewhat respectable is the Cover "A" section. But it is on average 25 pages long but at least half of that is full page adverts. The business section is seriously lacking and usually bare. The rest of the sections are rubbish. Recently there was an article about Dumbledore being gay. Is that really appropriate for the New York Times to report on. Is the New York Times becoming a pop culture paper similar to the post or other tabloids?
Can anyone offer an alternative? What are your views on the wall street journal?
Answer: The only newspaper I subscribe to is the Wall Street Journal. A little dry but good old fashioned unbiased reporting. It is strongly bent towards economic news. It's a tad expensive but hey, if you want quality journalism...
If you want general interest, fashion news, gossip, or slanted reporting, it's not your paper. If you're blindly Liberal, two choices: read the Journal and learn, or scream loudly in denial. This paper really doesn't pander to any political bent.
The NY Times as you've discovered is awfull. I periodically read it when visiting my folks. They really don't like it either but it's marginally better than the S.F. Chronicle (Comical as it's known around here) and the L.A. Times. Obviously, they're poor rags and a waste of reading time.
For news of international importance, I look to Canada's press and the BBC to get away from the U.S. viewpoint (on-line, both). Periodically, I'll look at Israel's press when a coworker gives me a head's up.
We miss an enormous amount of news and perspectives of real importance here due to our press. There's too much the U.S. press completely ignores or slants these days.
Hope this helps.

Is the New York Times the only newspaper who sends their journalists to report on foreign conflicts?
Let me clarify:
Is the New York Times one of the only newspapers in the US who sends their journalists to report on [foreign] current events? What about Newspapers like the Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, etc? I know everytime I read the newspaper the article is always taken from the NY Times.
Thanks in advance (sorry for the stupid question)
Answer: Absolutely NOT.. In short much of the nationals do.. Washington Post, Chicago tribune. However, most newspapers are cutting back on foreign correspondence. Alot of these newspapers rely on what are known as stringers. A freelance journalist who goes to a conflict zone and works for multiple outfits. And although the new york time has some designated correspondence - probably in hot spots such as Libya/Iraq much of the foreign news stories will have been either written by a freelance journalist who is attached to the newspaper - or by a complete stringer, who just is based their and writes for whoever is willing to pay..
Additionally, NY times and other outfits will rely on wire services (such as Reuters,AP,AFP) who supply material directly to the paper (and the broadcasters) and are not a direct publisher themselves ...

What are the requirments for being a journalist in New York Times?
Hey,
I want to be a journalist in the New York Times or The Washington Post.
Does someone know the requirments for being one?
P.S: Im not living in the US, so can I still work there?
Thank you so much,
Liran.
Answer: You need to be REALLY good. Those are two of the more reputable papers in the nation. Most of its staff writers work their way up there.
I'm sure they'd hire freelancers who live abroad, granted the subjects are current news or feature pieces they can feature from abroad.
The Washington Post and The New York Times both print many front page stories based on the economy from what happens overseas.

Preparing to write an Op ed for the New York Times?
Hi, I am preparing to write an Oped for the New York Times and this is my first submission. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for getting it approved?
Answer: Three ways
Have a recognized, published name in journalism, politics, history, or literature.
At a minimum, be a recognized expert in the field upon which you're writing.
Possess some sort of celebrity status.
It's extremely rare to see any unknown published as an Op-ed in the New York Times. Of those who are published as unknowns, most were picked up from lesser papers.

What do I have to do to get an internship at the New York Times?
I hope to someday intern (and maybe work) at the New York Times, and I am wondering what is required for this? Obviously you need clips and a cover letter and things like that. But is an internship at the Orange County Register and the St. Petersburg Times enough? Plus around ten good clips from a college newspaper? How do I write my cover letter and my "500 word autobiography?" Is it really impossible to get this internship?
Answer: The best way to find out about internships at NYT is to contact the newspaper directly. Find out who is in charge of selecting interns, email that person, and ask them how they choose from their applicant pool.
Try to find out
1)How many interns they select for X SEMESTER/SUMMER
2)How many applications they typically receive
3)Where their interns typically come from, if they are undergrads or grad. students, whether they hail from all over the US or just the east coast; and any other questions you may find relevant.
Columbia University has a course for their graduate journalism students which is, in fact, an internship at the New York Times! So one way to guarantee yourself an internship would be to attend Columbia University's graduate school of journalism (I have no idea how difficult it is to gain acceptance to Columbia, though I understand they have one of the nation's most respected journalism schools).
