San Francisco police spokeswoman Officer Grace Gatpandan said 29-year-old Mary Mak was arrested following a standoff with police that began around 3:45 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of King Street, near Fourth Street. Gatpandan said a 911 call came in .

Honoring Memory Of Shooting Victim A killing on a Manhattan street two and a half years ago. A free canoeing and camping trip for teenagers now under way in a Canadian wilderness. The link between these events is the determination of the slain mans family to honor his memory. On Jan. 12, 2003, Burke OBrien, 25, above, who had grown up in the Chicago area, was shot and killed during a robbery outside a Lower East Side building where he had been staying with a friend after taking a banking job in New York.
Still Seeking Payment From Bernard Goetz
Darrell Cabey, who was awarded $43 million by a jury for his injuries from being shot by Bernard H. Goetz in a Manhattan subway train in 1984, has not received that money from Mr. Goetz. Mr. Cabey and three others were shot by Mr. Goetz, an electrical engineer, while riding the subway. Mr. Goetz, who used an unlicensed handgun, told the police that he feared the young men were going to rob him. Mr. Cabey, the most seriously wounded, was paralyzed and suffered brain damage. Mr. Goetz was acquitted of assault and attempted murder in 1987 but was convicted on a weapons possession charge. In 1996 a civil jury found the shooting unjustified and awarded Mr. Cabey $43 million. Mr. Goetz later filed for bankruptcy, but a judge said he still had to pay his victim.. To the Editor: Jesse McKinleys article about where the price of a $100 ticket to Mamma Mia! goes [And the Stub Is All Yours, May 19] was accurate in most respects, and helped explain to audiences why tickets must cost what they do. However, he implied that 25 percent of each tickets cost goes to the investors as profit. Two things should be made clear: The $24.75 he calls making money only goes to the investors when a show is doing near-capacity business, as Mamma Mia! is. If a show does less than capacity, all the other items must be paid as listed, except for royalties, which reflect a percentage of the gross, and only what is left, if any, goes to the investors.. Mr. Smith, above, was among the guards taken hostage with other state prison employees during the 1971 inmate rebellion at the penitentiary in western New York.
