Situated a half-mile off the New Rochelle coast, the uninhabited 78-acre island, with views of Manhattan, has been the object of numerous redevelopment plans over the last three decades. For a century, Davids Island was used as an Army post called Fort Slocum. Then, in the late 1960s, the post was deactivated and Consolidated Edison bought the land from the federal government.
