Do you think that John F.Kennedy would have committed to total nuclear combat?

Do you believe that John F.Kennedy would have committed the United States to total nuclear combat if the Soviet Union had not removed the missiles from Cuba? Or would he do something else, like bomb the missile sites?

Answer: No. I'd think not. He more likely would have sweetened the pot for the Soviets in some way. We did pull our missiles out of Turkey in return for the Soviet departure from Cuba. No doubt we could have done something a bit more if it had been necessary.

How much is a DC Police 1961 John F Kennedy Inauguration badge?

I am trying to find out how much my 1961 Washington DC Police John F Kennedy badge is worth. This is one of the 550 badges that were issued to all the officers working the day of the Inauguration. If anyone knows how much this badge may be worth please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Answer: You should probably contact, you know, an actual appraiser. As evidenced by both the recent and past influx of questions, no one on here has any idea what they're talking about.

Did President John F. Kennedy avert a nuclear disaster during the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Did President John F. Kennedy avert a nuclear disaster during the Cuban Missile Crisis?

Answer: No, it was the opposite. Kennedy almost caused a nuclear war by placing nuclear missiles in Turkey, only 90 miles from Russia's border in 1961. Russia responded by putting missiles in Cuba, only 90 miles from the U.S. in 1962.

On October 27, 1962 Kennedy dispatched his brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, to make an offer to the Soviet ambassador to the U.S., Anatoly Dobrynin, in the hope of defusing the crisis. Kennedy offered Dobrynin two things in exchange for Soviet removal of the Cuban missiles: (1) the U.S. would publicly pledge never to invade Cuba and (2) the U.S. would secretly withdraw missiles from Turkey. The U.S. refused to publicly admit to removing the Turkish missiles because it did not want to appear weak. The Soviet Union accepted this offer the next day.

And that whole U.N. stunt made the US look as ridiculous a Kruschev when he banged his shoe on the table and shouted "we will bury you". Badass? More like school yard bullies fighting each other instead of picking on the little guy, like they usually did by fighting proxy wars with each other in small poor counties, like Vietnam. That was another little war started by Kennedy and the Democrats.

Extravagance can be intoxicating, and those who grow accustomed to extravagance, only to be deprived of it, can miss it terribly. That accounts for much.

What were the strengths and weakness of John F Kennedy when he was a president of the United States?

I would like to know if theres any website that I can go to and look for John F Kennedys strength and weakness. Im doing a biography assignment on a leader, and I chose John F Kennedy. Thank you!

Answer: Best Answer - Chosen by Asker 2005

Strengths:
His youth, optimism, charismatic personality, good orator,

Weakness:
The fact that he would mingle with the "common folk" and put himself in situations that were unsafe for a president...thus the assassination in Dallas from being in an open car.

He has a great legacy which is probably promoted mostly because of his death. It caused people to focus on the best that he represented. People debate what would have happened if he was not assassinated and what his legacy would have been.

Positive Things:
Creation of the Peace Corps
Nuclear Treaty
Strength and courage during Missile Crisis
Civil Rights

SPORTS OF THE TIMES; Seeking Role Models And Finding Human Beings

People keep saying they are outraged because a bunch of ballplayers took steroids. How are they going to explain this to the kiddies? My basic response is, oh, boohoo. Low-Water Mark for 2007 Murder Rate Takes the City Back to 1963

It was a year of trauma for the nation, and of foreboding for New York City. In 1963, the year that John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, New Yorkers were feeling strains in the urban fabric: Affluent families fled to the suburbs, job losses mounted among old-line manufacturers, and 548 people were killed. As 2007 draws to a close, it seems - Year 2007 will very likely end with fewer than 500 killings in New York City for first time since 1963, first year reliable records were kept; several of that years most notorious murders highlighted, including career girl killings of 21-year-old Janice Wylie and 23-year-old Emily Hoffert, stabbed to death in their Upper East Side apartment; photos (M) - By THOMAS J. what was john f kennedy role in the cuban missile?

Im writting a outline of John F Kennedys role in The Cuban Missile Crisis and I would like some more background information. I also have to write nikita khrushchev role, please write back as soon as you can, thanks!

Answer: In October 1962, an American U-2 spy plane secretly photographed nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union on the island of Cuba. President Kennedy did not want the Soviet Union and Cuba to know that he had discovered the missiles. He met in secret with his advisers for several days to discuss the problem.

After many long and difficult meetings, Kennedy decided to place a naval blockade, or a ring of ships, around Cuba. The aim of this "quarantine," as he called it, was to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies. He demanded the removal of the missiles already there and the destruction of the sites. On October 22, President Kennedy spoke to the nation about the crisis in a televised address.

No one was sure how Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev would respond to the naval blockade and U.S. demands. But the leaders of both superpowers recognized the devastating possibility of a nuclear war and publicly agreed to a deal in which the Soviets would dismantle the weapon sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. In a separate deal, which remained secret for more than twenty-five years, the United States also agreed to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey. Although the Soviets removed their missiles from Cuba, they escalated the building of their military arsenal; the missile crisis was over, the arms race was not.

In 1963, there were signs of a lessening of tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States. In his commencement address at American University, President Kennedy urged Americans to reexamine Cold War stereotypes and myths and called for a strategy of peace that would make the world safe for diversity. Two actions also signaled a warming in relations between the superpowers: the establishment of a teletype "Hot line" between the Kremlin and the White House and the signing of the Limited Nuclear Test Ban Treaty on July 25, 1963.

Could Barack Obama have even been considered as a future President without the legacy of John F Kennedy?

My feeling is that Obama wouldnt even have been elected the leader of his own party without Kennedy and it seems that he could go all the way. Do you agree that Barack Obama could ever have even been considered a future President without the legacy & myth of John F Kennedy? I believe Obama owes Kennedy an awful lot and never acknowledges that, what do you think?

Answer: He's a fluke - more like Jimmy Carter. Actually, Johnson was the force being civil rights - Kenneny really didn't care.

Who took the famous picture of young Bill Clinton shaking the hand of John F. Kennedy at the White House?

I just paid a lot for a "one of kind" picture of young Bill Clinton shaking the hand of John F. Kennedy in 1963. Bill clinton was a member of the American Legion Boys Club and was chosen by then President Kennedy himself to represent his group.
There are several servicemen around and American Legion Boys Club members there. From what I understand, the photo was taken on the White House Grounds. Does anyone know how might have taken it?
Im trying to determine the value of my "one of kind" frame photograph. It is printed on Kodak paper.
